Blizz Regionals!

Update:

SK USA has won the NA regionals beating out TSG in the Grand Finals. SK took down EG in the upper bracket finals 3-1. EG then lost a rematch to TSG 3-2 in a reversal of their earlier upper bracket match up. SK then went on to beat TSG 3-1 in the finals.

Slorkuz from Blizzard wrote a rather long winded account of the matches on the WOW forums. You can read Saturday’s HERE and Sunday’s HERE.

It was an amazing tournament from seeing the results, but I had a real hard time following the event. Match times were tough to find and information limited. I hope blizzard realizes soon that tournaments are pointless unless heavily promoted on their own sites.

Old Info:

The EU Blizzard Regional took place today and the US Regional is still underway.

In Europe, x6tence, the 2007 WWI runners up and EM3 LA champs, can add another title to their list after they came from the lower bracket to take the title home. They were joined by Woah and eDawgs on the podium with SK’s EU team coming in fourth. I think the interesting part of this event though isn’t who won but who went out in the first round. Ensidia’s Arena team lost two close matches versus SK EU and Rest in many pieces to drop out of the tournament in the first round of the Lower Bracket.

Having played games competitively, I know shit happens. You have bad days, a bad match up, the other team has you number, or some random ass shit happens leading to you losing. I get that. What I don’t get is when it happens to people who talk a whole lot of shit about how great they are. Hydra from Ensidia missed the memo that laid out how eSports shit talking always bites you in the ass.

They placed third at MLG Columbus in a “weak” field of American teams … won Dreamhack’s event … and then falls flat on their face at the Blizzard Regionals. I don’t know about you but that seems like a fairly average showing for “the best RMP” in the world. I didn’t catch any of the matches, but there definitely needs to be some fine tuning with this squad.

Anyways here are the top three EU finishers (top two get a spot in the tournament at Blizzcon):

1st x6tence (FalcoN, Siler, Souler H,DK,Pal)
2nd Woah (Ocelote, Kae, Inflame W,L,D)
3rd eDawgs (Raeli, Stgeorge, Saori W,L,D)

The US Regional will finish tomorrow with EG versus SK US in the Upper Bracket and TSG facing eMg in the Lower Bracket.

TSG’s cleave is the number one 3’s team in the world right now sitting at 2953. They dropped a close match to EG in the second round of the Upper Bracket, but destroyed their next opponent keeping their Blizzcon dreams alive.

eMg , the second place finisher from MLG Columbus, also got hit by the EG train sending them to the Lower Bracket in the first round. From there eMg took down Complexity and Pandemic setting up their show down with TSG.

While EG had to cut its way through TSG and eMg, SK beat a wild rogmonkey appears and Pandemic. Not to talk down these teams, but EG clearly had a harder road to the Upper Bracket Finals. However, SK US is the reigning US champ from their win at MLG Columbus and tomorrow is a new day.

I still think this tournament favors EG. They’ve had a good look at both TSG and eMg in this event, while SK hasn’t. I’m really looking forward to these matches tomorrow and holding my breath for a potential TSG versus SK match up.
